SCHOOL BREAKFAST MAP

FRAC's School Breakfast Scorecard, and its companion report, Making It Work In Large School Districts, compare free and reduced-price school breakfast participation to free and reduced-price school lunch participation, by state. I used D3 to map the ratio of breakfast to lunch participation by state, and added layers to identify primarily rural states and to show the school districts included in the companion report.

DATA-DRIVEN FACT SHEETS

I used R code and R markdown to automate the creation of state fact sheets to accompany a brief on hunger, poverty, health, and the federal nutrition programs. This took some work up front to align the data with the images, but it paid off in the end--I could update all 52 fact sheets in seconds by rerunning the R code!
